THINGS TO DO AT MONTVILLE

BUSH WALKS & PARKS
Montville and the Blackall Range is renowned for its tranquility, views and beauty. Highlights include :

  • Mapleton Falls - Where Pencil Creek cascades 120m over an escarpment into the Mary River. A new viewing platform has recently been opened. The Wampoo Circuit is an easy walk of 1.3km and winds through the rainforest and eucalypt forest.
  • Kenilworth State Forest - The Fig Tree walk is on the Maleny-Kenilworth road where Booloomba Creek joins the Mary River. A sealed track with sections of boardwalk highlight giant specimens of the Morton Bay Fig trees.
  • Mapleton Lilyponds - Created by a local resident, Ernie Setterfield and willed to the public in 1991. With an abundance of waterbirds, this is a great location for a picnic.
  • Kondalilla Falls National Park - 327 hectares of national parkland, and only a short stroll to Picnic Creek. There is a walking circuit that takes you 2km back up the hillside from the Falls, and requires a reasonable level of fitness. Kondalilla Falls drops 90m into the valley below. An additional 2.7km circuit takes you to the base of the Falls - well worth the effort
  • Mary Cairncross Reserve - 130 acres of rainforest with a 1.7km walking track and an amazing range of native fauna. Stunning views over the Glasshouse Mountains.
  • Barron Pocket Dam - This 380 hectare lake was completed in 1989. The dam wall and spillway can be accessed. The lakeside picnic area has barbecues, toilets, and a playground. A 2.4km walking circuit leads from the car park into the Obi Obi Gorge, along a cool rainforest trail.

SHOPPING

  • In Montville alone there are some 103 shops that trade seven days a week.
  • Eumundi Markets is a 35 minute drive to the North. These markets are really worth a visit and function on Wednesday and Saturday mornings only. For the traditional shopping centre, head to "Sunshine Plaza" in Maroochydore, just 35 minutes away.

WINERIES

  • There are now four wineries on the Range.
  • Visitors are most welcome and advised to take advantage of the cellar door sales, which are all excellent value.
  • If you enjoy good wine, you should sample the product the Range has to offer.
